How can I add someone to the vehicle registration if they drive the car more than I do? My name is the only one listed as the registered owner.

Actually Mr. Smarty pants down here is incorrect. All states are different...however it depends if you are giving them permission to drive or partial ownership of vehicle. in case of ownership you sign the title (just you) and then BOTH of you sign the title as purchasers for reason of changing title, not changing selling vehicle. Some states have a separate section just for adding a new person on the registration. If you could not have more than one person than explain how a bank could be title owner with you as registered driver?? Call your local Dept. of Motor Vehicles and ask them the best route to take as per the Laws of your county. You can add anyone to your insurance policy...registered or not. You can also go down and have a letter notorized authorized that person use of your vehicle.

Ask the DMV in your state what the regulations are. In California, all four of my cars have two registered owners listed. The main thing is the "and/or" part. "And" means both parties have to sign for transfer of title, upon sale of the vehicle. "Or" means only one person needs to sign for the transfer of title. Also check with your insurance company's requirements. My insurance company requires any other driver of a car I own must be listed as a registered owner. California DMV has a simple form to add a registered owner and it costs $10.

you cant add another person to the registration. what you can do is add him/her to your insurance policy as another driver and they will be covered under you policy as well. if you change the name on the registration you are basically giving ownership of the car to that person and you will have to sign the title to do so. dont listen to ppl here telling you that you can, because you cant have two name or multiple owners on your title/registration. yea go ahead and listen to ppl on here who dont even own a car.(Below). there can be only one registered owner.no such thing as co-owners on a title. when have you seen two names on a registration. c'mon ppl, use common sense.

Go to the Department of Motor Vehicles in your area. They will have a form to fill out for change, addition to, or transfer of ownership. I'm not sure if there is a fee for this, but probably so.
