Exactly like you just said i want to date , i am not looking for a boyfriend or i do not want to be in a relationship at this point in my life possibly sometime in the near future and you are a great friend. And i love going on dates and just hanging out sometimes.

Just tell him that you want to be friends and hang out.
But let me tell you one thing I have learned---almost 99% of guy friends are not your true friends--they either have a crush on you or they want to date one of your friends.. There is usually not just platonic feelings on both sides. So be careful.. I loved my guy friends, but lost many after years of knowing them because of that reason!

just be perfectly honest with the guy of your interest. let him know that you're interested, but at the moment it's not right for you. if you're open to something in the future, let him know. but more importantly, tell him why you don't want to be in a relationship at this time.
