Get some conditioner and rub it in the matts, than take her brush and slowly brush the matts out ,starting from the outside moving in with every stoke of the brush.

Yorkies are generally a breed that needs regular trips to the groomer. It sounds as if you're brushing her often, which is helpful. Here are two suggestions:

1. Take her to a groomer and let them work the mats out--they're professionals and can usually do it without much pain for the dog.
2. (If you can't afford the groomer) You might consider buying or borrowing a book on dog care, and reading about dog grooming and clipping. Then buy a pet clipper (which costs about $20.00 at Wal-Mart). Here's the potentially difficult part: you'll have to introduce the idea slowly if your dog has never been groomed, it's a big buzzing thing that easily frightens dogs. Once your dog is used to the clippers, you should be able to trim the hair frequently so that it doesn't mat up.

I prefer a "puppy cut" for most of the longer-haired breeds, it's a fairly short cut but looks very cute and then you don't have to mess with the long hair. Don't forget to set the clipper on a longer setting, so you don't actually shave your dog all the way to the skin--you're just going for a trim.

In the short term you can clip the mats out with a scissors, but of course be very careful that you don't poke your dog. They might also make dog shampoo that addresses the issue of mats, check your local pet store.

The best thing to do is cut it out. If its in a big knot you wont get it out. You. maybe keep his hair a little shorter. Slickers are the best type of brush for them. Dont brush them from head to tail. I find it better to do it tail to head. It makes the coat look nice. Draw outside the lines with your yorkie. You have great pup. Remember they think they are 50#s and can kick doggie butt. Keep them on a leash...ALWAYS !! dont over feed him. He should be below the 10# mark. 3 to 5 is perfect unless he is a little bigger then most. Always keep some honey in the house. If they get played with alot they could go down. They can get hypo glycemch...dont mind the spelling. If they start to get real lazy and cant hold up his head you will need to force honey right in the mouth. or you can get stuff at any good pup shop made just for this. If you do buy something at the shop its a good idea to give them 1/2 a finger one time each day. The stuff must be really good. They eat it up real fast.

The only thing you can do to get the matts out is to cut them out. Make sure you cut below the matt to make sure you got it all out. Matts are very painful for dogs cuz it pulls their hair and keeps tangling. So the best thing to do is to cut it out, and when you bathe your dog, use a conditioner for long haired dogs. hope that helps!

YOu have to tak scissors and cut them out...it's the only way
and also the only way to stop them from getting bigger.

Be careful not to cut her skin... but even if she struggles a little pull the hair and cut away at the matts. It's for her own good.
once they're out...continue to brush her regularly

Scissors: It'll probably take two people, and be careful not to get the skin, but cut as close to the base as you can, it'll grow back.

You can get conditioner for dogs, too. Might be a good idea after a bath.

If they are really bad, I would just cut them out this time and keep the area well brushed/combed so it does not get into this state again
