If you are over 18 you can do as you please. However, your parents will be very upset and may disown you. Let them meet him and his family. Maybe they will arrange a marriage with him for you.

You sound rather young and is in a rush to grow up. Your parents may be wise to prolong your wishes to get married and for good reason. Many people get married without adequate preparation. With that I mean couples often don't discuss the in and out of marriages like budgets (finances), raising children, life goals, chores, etc. Furthermore, I highly doubt it if you two are even stable enough to support yourself and even if you do manage to find a job, it will be a low paying job because it does not sound like you guys have any marketable skills (assuming you're still in high school). I think your parents are just trying to safeguard your future. Don't be in a rush to get married. Keep it simple and take time to discover each other. If you don't you will regret it one day. Look at the divorce statistics....they're there for a reason. Do your research!

This sounds like a complicated cultural issue. Well, if you live in the United States and you are 18 years of age, you can get married to whomever you want as long they are an adult too. As for your parents approval? Maybe the four of you should sit down and discuss your love for one another and you should tell them that you really love them to and would really want their blessing first. That you are an adult and you can make adult decisions but will always respect their opinion. Then do what you think is right.

How can anyone be against a love marriage, what other kind is there? Are you royalty that you have to marry to consolidate the kingdom. Tell them "this is the 21st century, I'm over 18 and I'm marrying my man".

If it's their culture for arranged marriages only, then it's going to be tough to even convince them. I don't know how strict your culture is but for me, I would marry the guy anyway behind their back and let them know later on. Whether they accept it or not is up to them, but the deed is already done with. You have to be prepared of the outcome , if they going to be there for you or not .

Against love marriage? I'm not sure I understand. However, if you are over 18, do what you want. If you are under 18, wait until you're older. Then do what you want.

Would your parents prefer you marry someone you don't even care for so they can feel good?
This is your life, not theirs. You have the rest of your life to be intimately involved with another person, it shouldn't be a stranger no matter what his assets are.
The person you choose to spend your life with should be someone you love, your best friend.

where r u from? what is ur religion? sori to ask but i know that in some countries & some religions, love marriage is forbidden. sumtimes the family will murder the lovers, they call it honor killings.
for me, better to have a heart to heart talk with ur parents. prove them that u really love each other but dont do sumthing that u'll regret later.
good luck!

If you are over 18--- all you have to do is what you want! If your parents have a good reason for not liking him, then you should take that information into consideration. But it is your choice--they will get over it if you get married.--they really will. If they don't then they suck!! My mom still does not speak to me, but she will one day and then it will be too late.
