Seriously... Is is my imagination, or is it ONLY Christians that try to "convert" people ALL THE TIME?!? No matter what I seem to say, I am told it is God's will, and I should recieve the Father, sell all my worldly possesions, and join a cult or whatever... OK maybe that is exaggerating, but why is it that it only seems to be Christians that feel the need to tell me what I should believe in... No Jews, Hindus, Muslims, or bloody Hare Krishnas have told me that I should join them on the path of rightousness recently... Why do Christians feel that they have that right??

Ok, I guess I should give a little more info on MY beliefs...

***I believe that everyone is responsible for their own actions.
***I believe that if everyone were to do just one thing a day that made another happy, the world might just save itself.
***I believe that no one person has the right to proclaim themselves better than anyone else.
***I believe that everyone has within them the potential to help create a better world.

Just because I do not label myself, apparently I should go to somewhere that is reserved for evil people. I do not see my beliefs as evil. Why are people telling me that my way of life is wrong? THAT is my question, broken down into bitesize pieces.

Just to break the monotony, I'm going to preach to you about Cthulhu. Cthulhu loves you! He loves you so much that he wants to EAT you! That's right, when he at last awakens from his eons-long sleep, he's going to be mighty hungry, and every living thing on Earth will be on the menu. Your best hope is to be eaten first and get it overwith--let him finish off the Christians as dessert, so they'll have to wait longer to receive their horrifying fate. Paradise is for sissies, join the cult of Cthulhu and get eaten first!

I feel your frustration. Try to understand that Christians have a particularly uncomfortable world view. Every time they meet someone they could like, and find out they are not Christians, they get the willies thinking of this person they would like to be friends with frying in their own fat for eternity, screaming in pain, no relief, forever! If you tried to believe such a thing, it would make you at least a little neurotic, too, wouldn't it? The problem is, the belief is fundamentally (sorry!) irrational. Why would anyone want to worship a God who was so cruel and unjust? To torture a man forever just because he gave in to the temptation presented by a pretty woman who was not his wife? Or require that he repent such an evening with a kind and generous girl?

I remember hearing a story about a guy who was raised Catholic, and on his death bed, he called for a priest to give him absolution. They went over all the "sins" he had committed, and most of them had to do with being a rather lusty old goat. The priest asked if he was sorry for his sins, and he admitted that he was not. But he added, "well, I'm sorry that I'm not sorry," and the priest decided that would have to do.

So mote it be!

Why are Christians always trying to convert people towards their religion by pointing the finger at who goes to "Hell?"...when clearly they have no right to.

Why are the Atheist constantly making post at how there are none intelligent Christians and that they are all stupid "hicks" from the South?...when clearly there are/have been intelligent Christians.

Why is everyone so quick to group all Muslims into one category and call them all "suicide bombers?"...when clearly NOT all are.

Everyone wants to be right, and will go to any lengths to prove it. While I remain neutral in it all (Agnostic), I respect the Pagans/Wiccans more because they are more tolerant than any other religion I've seen so far in here. I have yet to really come across one who bashes someone else for their religious preference. Most of the time I stay away from this category, which should be a place where everyone can learn from each other, instead it's a place where people spread their hate like a wildfire...now I remember WHY I stay away.

I think that there are so many christians trying to convert you because one there is more of them. And two the other religions are more conservative and dont go out and do that. I live in Arizona which is right by Utah and there are alot of mormans. They try to convert people more then the typical christians. So just dont be rude just say you are not intrested. And if your feel like other religions do not do this as much you should be the one to start!

Ok..you have a VERY valid point. However, belief in the Christian faith commissions those like me, who believe to "spread the word". I think the part that most of of miss is that the "word" is Jesus and that word is "love". So in ignorance, most people literally try to spread the written word without showing people the living word in their heart. I hope I shed light on this. I'm sorry no one who proclaimed to be a Christian ever bothers to see about your needs rather than tell you what you need. God Bless!

Christianity is unique among the world religions for two reasons:

1. The "historical" claim to a resurrected founder. According to the Gospels, Jesus didn't claim to know a way to escape suffering, he claimed to be the way itself - and rose from the dead as a way of "proving" it. There are substantial logical and historical motives to believe that the founder, Jesus of Nazareth, was something more than human - the first generation of Christians had a strong enough belief in his resurrection that they were willing to die brutal deaths alongside loved ones not for the philosophy behind their faith, but for the belief that they - like him - would rise from the dead.

2. A God who chooses to suffer with humans. Interesting that the Christian icon of triumph and hope is a dieing, tortured, pathetic, condemned man nailed to scrap wood.

With that uniqueness in mind, I think you should understand that Christians, unlike most (if not all) other religious people, do not think theirs is an optional philosophy. They think it is as real and objectively true as 2+2=4. They think it is as verifiable and testable as gravity. And the fundamentalist Protestants (whom it sounds as if you have following you around) have the harsh belief that unless you believe as they do, you will literally burn in unquenchable nether-flames with an incorruptable body forever and ever in an infinitely lonely darkness. So at least they have good intentions!

My advice?

Over the next couple of weeks, in your spare time, listen to the following lectures by Catholic philosopher Peter Kreeft:

http://www.peterkreeft.com/audio/18_god-existence.htm
http://www.peterkreeft.com/audio/30_lotr_identity.htm
http://www.peterkreeft.com/audio/26_dark-side.htm
http://www.peterkreeft.com/audio/02_divine-truth.htm
http://www.peterkreeft.com/audio/12_sea-spirituality.htm

Then tell these people in your life that you're willing to arrange a full day of whatever spiritual activities they feel are most profitable. After the day comes and ends, tell them you need to "sleep on it".

The next time you see them, say something like this: "Ok. I've tried your way. I don't find it to be true. In fact, I find it to be offensive. So yeah. Stop talking about it. If you continue to do so, I'm afraid I'll have to end our friendship - because at that point, you will have ceased being a true friend."

Hope this helps.

I would suspect you are suffering from a rare but never fatal disease known as ihaveastupidsignonmyforehead. It is easy to cure yourself of this, you need to eat biscuits and gravy with some sausage once a week and drink plenty of fluids. Plus you need to read one book a month for two years and all will be better.Oh yea and the last thing is get a gun and shoot the next person who tries to convert you to anything, but only and I repeat only shoot them in the little toe. If you shoot them anywhere else you will be converted to what ever it is they are converting people too.

If you bothers you so much, you can become a hermit...some people do. However, that's not so realistic...

However, Jesus pursued me for a relationship from the beginning. He wanted a relationship with me...me. I find that to be very cool.

I share my faith because I know what God/Jesus has done for me. I know everyones experience is different. However, I wish everyone could have what I have found. (Actually you can...)

John 14:6 Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."

I'm glad to hear that no one else is pushing their religion on you.

Religion is man's way to get to God.

Relationship is Gods way to reach us through Jesus Christ.

Grace to you and God bless!

because you are looking in the wrong place....the Bible can never be the truth logically because it contains innumerable scientific errors, innumerable contradictions and obscenities.

Islam is the Truth, don't look at what the media has to say about Islam, they are portraying Islam in a very bad way

You wanna know the truth about Islam go to :

http://www.aswatalislam.net/DisplayFilesP.aspx?TitleID=50027&TitleName=Zakir_Naik

and listen to " Qur'an And Bible In The Light Of Science Vs Campbell"

It is a debate between a muslim scholar by the name of Dr. Zakir Naik and a christian scholar by the name of Dr. William Campbell.....

interesting fact about Dr. Zakir Naik: Not only has he memorized the Qur'an, but has also memorized the Bible, Hindu Scriptures, BUddhist scriptures and many other religious scriptures......it is a very interesting debate.....and very amazing to watch him quote

This type of behavior is common among many religons, but (a) you likely have more christian aquaintances and (b) christianity encourages/reinforces this type of recruiting mentality.

In general, people have doubts/ambivalence about their religion - non-believers serve to increase the doubts of those who are religous, thus threatening their belief system - so they are trying to convert you to ease their own anxiety. Just tell them DONT H8 - Y U H8?!
