The media doesn't betray "military" secrets. They are informing us about all the under-handed things the government is doing against the American people. The Bush administration is breaking laws without going thru the proper steps to do this stuff.

The media knows alot of things that they don't make public, because of national security.

We wouldn't know half the stuff that is going on if it wasn't for the media.

Yet, on the other hand, the White House can come out with all kinds of leaks about national security and think that it is okay, just because they want to get even with someone.

The media should be held responsible, period. If they release information that is detrimental to the military, the government, or the general public.

By releasing information about the military (betraying military secrets), they are putting the lives of our service men/women in greater jeopardy. That's the reason they are called "Secrets". The greater damage that could occur, the higher the classification level.

The media has a responsibility to ensure that its broadcasts do not assist either military force.

There was a big fallout between the Parachute Regiment and the BBC during and after the Falklands war when the BBC broadcast to the world, including the Argentinian Army, that the Paras were on their way to mount a surprise attack on them, which resulted in the Argentinians being ready and inflicting more casualties than would wotherwise have happened.

The public has a right to know stuff but not if it endangers the lives of our troops.

Freedom of speech makes me say no to this answer but in the same respect I view it as being bad journalism. I think that they should use better judgement and weigh out what's more important, our country or the 11 O'clock news. If they have a story to tell than they obviously have gained it through a source that works closely with our government and that is where the blame should go. The thing that really peeves me about our reporters is that 9 times out of 10 it's always the bad situations being aired. I don't know about all of you but I'd like to see more of the good stories like the soldiers interracting with the children, helping people, that kind of thing. I guess that those things just are'nt important enough in the eyes of a journalist anymore though.

The media reports news as they see fit. There is no consideration for the welfare of the soldiers in harms way. The media should be held responsible for disclosing information considered to be sensitive. Now who can be the official judge of which information should be disclosed I cannot say but this print it all and write to sell papers has to stop. I have taught my children to watch the news with caution. The information portrayed in media is set forth with all the hype of an afternoon soap opera.

Let them be held responsible for damages created by sloppy news reporting!

I do think it is in bad taste for the media to report certain things and they should know better. But I think the source should be held responsible. Whoever is leaking these secrets and revealing them to the media should be held accountable!

Yes, they were wrong to publish this and any other articles that put our security at risk. I think they owe the American citizens, our government, and our troops an apology, with a promise not to do that again.

The traitor that gave the information to the NYT should be imprisoned.

The media has threatened our security, belittled our troops, our government, and our president on a daily basis, since the beginning of the war.

What military secrets did the media 'betray'? Do you have specifics?

I need a more specific question. Military "secrets" do not normally appear in the media, ANYWHERE. And now, with government intervention in news releases, even less so.

With Freedom comes responsibility. The media should have been blacked out indefinately when Geraldo Rivera disclosed troop locations.
