I have a question from our study book of new believers. It says When you accepted Christ you accepted His Spirit. What does 1 John 3:24 tell you about knowing that Christ lives within you? We are thinking that it means that if you keep Gods word and him within your heart that he will never leave or forsake you. Is that what it means?

1John 3:24 says: And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hearby we know that he abideth in us, by the spirit which he hath given us.

If you have accepted Jesus the Christ as your savior He will never leave you or forsake you Period. Because he remains faithful even when we are not faithful. 2Tim 2:13
That verse means that if we abide in Him (accepted Him as our savior and Lord) then we keep His commands, we know that He is with us because of the Holy Spirit, has been given to us

What that is talking about it that when you invite Jesus into your heart...along with the Holy Spirit...he will guide.

Studying the Bible helps to write his words into your heart.

In knowing the truth (The Bible) then you can rebuke lies. How can you tell a lie from the truth...if the truth is not known?

"24 All who keep his commandments abide in him, and he in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given us."

Hope that helps...

Grace to you and God Bless!

This verse is a reaffirmation that the Holy Spirit dwells within all believers who accepts Christ, for who He is (the Son of God), obeys His commandments, and accepts Him as their redeemer.

When you are saved, you know that you are. You strive to keep his commandments because the Holy Spirit in you compels you to do it. But the security that you have is given by the Holy Spirit..

The Spirit which He has given us is The Holy Spirit. It is the agency of the Holy Spirit to convict, lead us to Christ and exalt Jesus in our lives, explain scriptures to us and bring them to our remembrance. Jesus is the Word made flesh dwelling among us. The more of the knowledge of the word inside you with understanding, the more of Jesus you have in power. Jesus himself said, 'If you abide in me and my word abide in you, you will ask what you will and it shall be done unto you."

Keeping God's commandments is an outward sign of the inward reality that He lives inside of us, and we live inside of Him. Keeping His commandments cannot save us or earn His favor, but keeping His commandments is a natural byproduct of our love for Him and the sign that we are dwelling with Him.
"If ye love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15)."

um i guess if and i may be wrong
it means that if you keep his commandments he will not be grieved and you will have peace and joy but if you sin the holy ghost will take that joy away and will be grieved so do the right no matter what the world thinks OK
