I have a male cat that was a inside cat for 8 years until he was thrown outside 2 years ago. We had him neutered when he lived inside. I saw my other male cats the other day taking turns with my female cat and I was shocked to see my neutered cat getting on her too. Is this normal? I did not know that they even wanted it anymore after they have been fixed. My husband seems to think that he is seeing the other male cats and learning from them but I dont know.

Why was he thrown out? Was he spraying in the house? If he was neutered late in life, after 3 years old, he may still have tendencies to roam or mate. It is a normal thing. Mating for animals anyway, is an instinct. If he were neutered as a kitten 4 months or less, he would have very little drive if any.

It's the same reason my cat "claws" the furniture with her clawless paws. It is all instinct. I adjust my glasses, even after I take them off. It is something the cat used to do, so he is just stuck in the habit. That's a normal thing.

neutering a male cat doesn't take away the sex drive, any more than a male human having a vasectomy takes away his sex drive. they still want to have sex, just like human males. it just takes away their ability to get a female cat pregnant.
