I think anything over 40 is too old...it greatly increases the risk of complication to both mother and baby and who wants to be almost 60 when their kids are graduating highschool!?!

I was 35 when my son was born. My mother was 44 when my youngest brother was born. My grandmother was in her mid 40's when the last of 9 were born. I've always read that there is a higher risk of birth defects as you get older but it also matters whether or not it is your first pregnancy. I know my parents acted so old by the time my youngest brother was a preteen/teenager. That is probably why I have made sure I stayed active with my son. I didn't want him to grow up with a "grandmother" for a mom.

well to answer your question I am 38 and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy this past january. I asked the same question to myself "Am I to old" well now that he is here I woudn;t change it for the world. He has brought so much joy and happiness to us. Who knows I might have one more. You didn't say how old you are but I say If you want a baby then have one and it really dont matter what other people think as long as you love it and take care of it. That little baby will always love you back.

People are having children older these days.

However, for a woman, beyond 35 increases the risks of having babies with significant problems (such as Downs Syndrome).

My goal was to be a biological mom by 35. However, after multiple miscarriages, we are choosing adoption, and I've come to realize I don't HAVE to have a baby to be a mom.

I would suggest not having a child over 45. There's a significantly higher risk of having a child with a serious birth defect the older you get. In fact, the risk starts to really increase as young as 35.

Think about how old you'll be when the child is 18. Will you still be earning enough money to send him/her to college? When s/he's 15, will your heart stand up to teenage antics? When s/he's 8, will you be able to keep up?

Well I'm sure your kids would appreciate if you were not of retirement age when they graduate from high school. However, they really have no choice, so only you can answer that question
