Best way to cook it? On a mesquite grill, which you probably don't have, unless you are at a really nice steakhouse. 2nd best way- On a charcoal grill. 3rd best- On a gas grill. 4th best- on a George Foreman grill. Only other way- In a pan.
Do your best on that, I have a gas grill. But put some Seasoning Salt on both sides. Lawry's seasoning salt or any other will work well, unless you want to make a blackened steak, then you would out a LOT of Cajun spice on it and cook it on high heat.
Temperature wise, I think medium rare is the best, but it depends on your preference. Well Done is no pink, Med Well is a little pink in the middle, Medium is the center is pink (about 1/2 of the thickness is pink, only in the center), Medium rare is mostly pink, Rare is only a little bit is not pink. Enjoy your steak!!!
( Could you imagine being a vegetarian...boring!)

If you don't have a grill, get a grill pan.
Spice your steak with grill seasoning, or plain salt and pepper.
Heat up the grill pan on the stove, med-high (no oil needed if it is non-stick). Once it is hot, place the steak on it (it will sizzle). Do both sides until they are charred. The steak will be red in the center.
If you want it done medium or medium well:
Have the the oven on 375, and place the entire pan/steak in the oven after it is charred for about 10 more minutes.
Top with steak sauce, or blue cheese, or even pesto.

In a cast iron skillet. Get it hot on the stove top and sear the meat on both sides then finish it off under the broiler. The best steak ever! Seriously men have fallen in love with me because of the way I cook a steak.

on a NASA hot, charcoal grill, medium rare/rare.
if you can't grill out, then try this....you're going to need excellent ventilation...
Recipe Summary
Pan Seared Rib-Eye
1 boneless rib eye steak, 1 1/2-inch thick
Canola oil to coat
Kosher salt and ground black pepper
Place 10 to 12-inch cast iron skillet in oven and heat oven to 500 degrees. Bring steak(s) to room temperature.
When oven reaches temperature, remove pan and place on range over high heat. Coat steak lightly with oil and season both sides with a generous pinch of salt. Grind on black pepper to taste.
Immediately place steak in the middle of hot, dry pan. Cook 30 seconds without moving. Turn with tongs and cook another 30 seconds, then put the pan straight into the oven for 2 minutes. Flip steak and cook for another 2 minutes. (This time is for medium rare steaks. If you prefer medium, add a minute to both of the oven turns.)
Remove steak from pan, cover loosely with foil, and rest for 2 minutes. Serve whole or slice thin and fan onto plate.
