Why do people talk like that?

Everyone gave really great and funny answers, except Naturegirl who has issues..., so I think I'm going to put it up to a vote

Either they are:
A. Speaking Arabic
B. Singing syncopated Jazz
C. Speaking some made up language like Pig Latin
D. Schitzophrenic
E. Trying to screw with you

There are many languages besides English. Why should people be expected to talk in the predominant language of that country when the person they are talking to speaks their language and it is easier for them to speak it and understand it. How would you like it if you visited Italy with a friend and someone yelled at you in Italian and you couldn't understand a word of it. Then you turned to your friend and said, "What the hell was that?!" and someone nearby said, "He said, 'When you're over here, why don't you speak our language! Dumb American!' And I agree with him. Why don't you just go back to the states?" It is not your business what they are saying anyway. They weren't saying it to you. If you went over to visit Quebec, you would hear people speaking primarily French and it might be difficult for you to even order anything unless you spoke enough of their language to do simple things. After an experience like that, I'm sure you would have a little more patience for someone near you speaking in another language.
When I hear people talking in another language in the melting pot of the U.S. of A., I ignore it like I would any conversation not directed at me and go about my business. I've got better things to do with my time than try to figure out what some stranger is saying to someone else.
