Google with a capital "G" is a proper noun, the name of a company. When using google as a verb, it should be used with a lower case "g". Unless it's at the beginning of a sentence, as in your question, then it would printed with a capital "G"

Google IS a verb. We make up words all the time. That is the beauty of language. So, google away!

English, however, is a very fluid language that tends to create new words with ease. We don't have any institution proscribing the proper use of the language, like the Real Academía. That means that the use and abuse of the English language can and often will become part of accepted speech with time. I think that makes English pretty cool, and if I like a new word or a new use of an existing word, I work it in. I happen to love Google, so I do enjoy googling things from time to time.
Sorry, I didn't really answer your question, but I wanted to register my disagreement with your statement.

in the current American dialect, google is on the fringes. I give it 3 years before the OED makes it an official verb unless something radically changes.

It is used as a verb in modern language. It has become interchangeable with the word "search." "I googled a website."
