Dog heats generally last the same amount of time in all breeds, 7 days going in (when the bleeding starts and is generally the heaviest, however your bit.ch can bleed heavy the whole heat) and 7 days in, (while fertile, if your breeding this is the time to breed) and 7 days going out (when the swelling reduces and bleeding stops- she is then no longer fertile). That is a total of 21 days from first blood to fully out of heat.

When you ask about a pit bull what breed do you mean? there is no such breed as a pit bull. There is an APBT, AMStaff, Staff Terrier, and a few other mixed breeds known as 'pit bulls'. I breed APBT's (American Pit Bull Terriers) and they generally go into their first heat about 6-8 months, like most larger breed dogs, they mature a little slower, and generally they go into heat every 6-8 months, once you get a pattern down with your bit.ch they generally stick to it. (for example one of my bitches went into heat at 9 months, then had her second heat 7 months later, every heat after that has been 7 months on the dot)

If your planning on breeding please do not breed on the first heat, I would wait until at LEAST her second heat, if not her third. APBT's don't mature physically until after a year, and it is really bad for the bit.ch to breed her and make her be a mom before she is physically mature herself.

If it is mess your worried about, most 'pit bull' breeds are pretty clean (although it can vary on the bit.ch) and there shouldn't be too much mess.

The heat cycle has nothing to do with being a different breed.
That would be like saying a German woman will start having a period when she turns 15, but a Chinese woman will not start her period until she is 20 years old.
All dogs mature at different rates. As a general rule, they will have their first heat cycle between 6 and 9 months of age.
A normal heat cycle usually last 21 days.
I am not going to say not breed her or get her spayed, trust me you will hear that enough with this question.
If you ask any breeding/heat related questions someone will always assume you are going to bred your dog to death.

Some pits go into heat between 4 to 6 months, but it doesn't last long.
