Have you applied for Federal aid? Federal student loans like Stafford and Perkins are always your best bet.

Your FAFSA serves as your application fro federal student loans. Your school will use it to determine your eligibility for Federal Student Aid, including federal grants and loans. Almost every FSA applicant is eligible for some type of Stafford loan funding: your school will inform you via letter or email (sometimes a dedicated student financial aid "portal" on their website) of your eligibility (loan type, amount, and whether the interest on loan will be federally subsidized). They will also let you know if you are eligible for a Perkins Loan and/or any grant funding from the federal government, state, or the school itself.

If you require additional loan funding that your school cannot pro vide, you will need to look into private educational loans. Try this website for a great list of reputable loan companies: http://www.finaid.com/loans/privatestudentloans.phtml

Among the ones on this list, the Sallie Mae Signature Student Loan is by far the most widely-used private loan. You might also consider the Citibank CitiAssist Loan at www.studentloan.com or the TERI loan (which you can apply for on www.teri.org, which should give you your choice of lenders).

Once you select a loan and apply for it online or over the phone, the company will notify your school that you have applied, check with them to make sure you are eligible, and disburse your loan according to the schedule that the school sets. If you have any questions, just ask your school -- even very small schools see hundred of thousands in private loan volume every year.

I was in the same situation myself! So I went on a google hunt (I mean search ;). Eventually, I did find a site that has rated a few student lenders, and says they have checked them out. Here's the web page: http://lendersrated.com/studentloans.htm

Hope it helps you...
