I need to know who this genius is that invented metallic bottles to carry in your jacket pockets to drink wherever and whenver!!

The hip flask began to appear in the form recognised today in the 18th century, initially used by members of the gentry. However, less compact versions had been in production for several centuries. Best I could locate is that these flasks were probably invented some 200 or so years ago. Inventor not mentioned.

The Dewar flask, was named after it's inventor Scottish physicist Sir James Dewar. I love having one too!

1876 Carlton Newman patents a flask that seals with a screw cap that is large enough to double as a shot glass as well.
I don't know if this is correct, but my 82 year old great aunt sure likes to carry her flask in her purse.
