He's 10 and I think he is scared. I know he will have a lot of fun if he ever got there and its centered on all his favorite activities. I'm just not sure how to convince him.

Personally, I cannot see making a child do anything they didn't want to do that they absolutely didn't have to do. It isn't against the law if they don't attend camp, but I see that you would like him to interact with other kids and maybe get him out of your hair for a while. He is most likely scared of the unknown as most all people are. If it's a sleepover camp, he is probably afraid of being away from home for an extended time. If it isn't, maybe he's just afraid of being around new people he doesn't know and being judged. I've always been afraid to go into situations where I didn't know the people. I was terribly shy and withdrawn as a child. If my mom had told me I was going to camp and it wasn't my idea, I would have most definitely cried and begged her to not make me go. Which is why I can't see torturing a kid and making them do something that they will be uncomfortable being involved in.

If you really, truly think he should go, make sure he gets there safely and reassure him that he can call you if he wants to go home for any number of reasons. I think that is very comforting for a child who might be scared or worried about a number of things. They like to know that mom or dad is only a call away.

Uh, you are the adult right? He's 10, not 31. You shouldn't have to convince him to do something. If you are the parent, tell the child what to do. Maybe you can tell the child about your own experiences at camp. The things you learned, fun stuff you did, friends you made. I didn't want to go when I was young either. But I'm glad my parents made me go.

he's young so if he really doesn't wanna go dont make him. he's got time still. if it's a good camp he'll have a good time. my sister cried before going to a camp once. she didn't wanna go but she ended up going kicking and screaming. when we went to pick her up when the camp ended, she cried because she didn't wanna leave. he's just scared to take that step. its a big stpe but camp is really great for kids.
