Yes, 9" is big. Average is about 6"-7" (depending on how hard you are and exactly where you measure to). Much over that size and you'd start having trouble finding girls brave enough to take you on. (By the time you get to say 12" that becomes a pretty big problem.)
Most of the women I've spoken on the subject to said that how thick it is makes as least as much difference to them as how long it is. (And how well you use it, and the rest of your body, makes even more difference.)
