i'm a Firefighter/EMT and everytime we get a call i run out of the house knowing shes scared, and last week i had a wall fall on me and it didn't help any when she found out, i mean i come home from my station with burns on my knees or arms from the heat but thats "normal", it just bothers me because everytime i leave for a fire or wreck i know inside she's worrying about me, what can i do to have this not bother me or keep her from worrying about me?

for all the people who told me to quit or get another job, that will never happen becuase i love what i do and that i'm helping people, it's also a lot more personal then being a doctor, because there only you and the patient, not you the patient and 6 other people to help you

She just really cares for you. It means she really loves you and she doesn't want you to get hurt. She just worries about you. Doesn't it feel nice if someone really cares about you??? Sure she's a little overprotective about this stuff or whatever. At least you know someone really cares about you

You can just tell her "I'm going to be fine. Don't worry about it. I know what I'm doing"

OR

You can also tell her " Can you please stop worrying about me? Please? I know I'm going to be fine. I'm here to do my job/duties. Please just stop worrying about me. Everything will be fine. Just please trust me. I'll be fine. If you love me you'll listen. Just, please. Stop worrying about me."

Ok well the second one might be a little too much but hey, at least you got something to say.

You can just leave her like that. C'mon! Its nice to know that someone really cares about you. Ok. Well, hope it works out!

I know what it is like im an emt and firefighter as well, (ive got it bad cause my b/f is my superior, and he would not let me in the building or out of his sight on a scene) Anyway back to your problem, I sat down with my boy friend and disscussed the risks, and our feelings. Sometimes that is all you can do. I know that sometimes it helps for them to know whats going on, if your girl friend thinks so . . .see in investing in a scanner or leave your pager at home for her to listion in, but you should diffentally explain to her, why you do the job and why you enjoy it. The most important thing is be open.

I don;'t think there is anything you can do to make her stop worrying. She loves you and of course she is going to worry with the type of job you have. The only thing you can do is to assure her that you do everything properly and follow all the safety precautions. Also mention to her that you work with a great group of people and everyone looks out for each other.

There's nothing wrong with her worrying about you... if she didn't worry, then you should be concerned. You have a risky job.... keep up the good work!

Nothing.

So, just love her and demand that she loves you and trusts you to do your job; trust your coworkers to protect you; and tell her that sending you to work with a smile and a "Go get 'em!" is more heartfelt and appreciated than "I love you."
