Our Weim has to spend 5-6 hours a day alone. We were wondering if anyone has 2 Weims and how do they get along.

if you have to leave your dog alone for 6 hours a day its a bad idea to get a puppy because they need to be put out like every 2 hours

You might not like my answer, but I am not trying to make you feel like a 'bad' dog owner.. please do not feel this way... not my intention at all..

I personally think that you should hire a professional dog walker, who will take your weimaraner to a great dog run at least once a day when you are away... why? The breed needs it.

Weimaraners are very energetic animals...they are bred to hunt all day with their master. Changing this behavior changes the essential Weim. If you can not deal with this behavior, you should look at other breeds less rambunctious.

Will they benefit from another dog? Yes and no. Yes, for they have another dog to hang out with - but when they are outside with you. They are beautiful dogs, and as puppies this is what people see in general... most people do not realize with these dogs comes a HUGE commitment to time invested. Eventually, the two Weims will want the same thing.. even if you get a different breed, same thing.. the Weim will still want what he is bred for.

Hope this helps...

i dont know if you should get a puppy if you are unable to give the puppy the time he needs to be properly trained. however, maybe you can adopt a dog, even another weimaraner, that is a little older, say a year. already trained and a better playmate because puppies can get on the nerves of older dogs.

your dog would need time to adjust also. dogs do get jealous. i would really think about this decision. dogs dont only need each other, they need your companionship as well.

i wouldn't recommend getting another dog because if you are alone that long you don't know what kind of mischief they will get into, Plus the puppy will get his *** handed to him by the 2 year old and the puppy will develop a very submissive personality and the 2 year old would think he is a "dog god" so i would highly recommend not getting the puppy

I would highly suggest getting another dog. I don't own Weimaraners, but I know it has helped my dogs relax and burn energy by having a companion. My Great Dane has just done wonderful having a companion. He lost his destructive behaviors, and has calmed down

it is good to get another dog when the first is spending to much time alone. make sure your dog is good with others and get one very similar to the size of yours maybe the same breed but look up on it and ask breeders on the subject
