OK I just have to say to the person that said cats smell, obviously doesn't know cats OR dogs or doesn't know how to care for them. Dogs smell worse than cats - which is why they require more bathing than cats. While litter boxes can stink worse, your house doesn't have to smell like a cat or a litter box if you just keep your house and litter box clean.
I like dogs and cats but find I prefer cats because they are not so needy as dogs. You can go on vacation for a couple days and not worry about someone taking them out, or worry about them eating all their food 5 minutes after you walk out the door. Also, cats are more independent and make up their own mind on what to do, they don't attack you forcing you to give them all your attention when they want it (all the time). My cats are very loving and give me attention, yes sometimes more than I want or at inconvenient times, but it's the dog that wakes me up at 4:00 am to go outside or because it's raining and he's scared. I have to take the dog to a family member's when I'm gone for more than 8 hours, and it's the dog that demands undivided attention the moment I walk in the door and is under my feet.

I love both cats and dogs. I grew up with dogs but was "introduced" to cats as an adult. I was allergic to them earlier in life, but not now! Who knew? I now have 3 cats and a wonderful black Lab mix, Maxie. I don't know what I'd do without them in my life!

I have a Great Dane, he's about as far from a cat as you can get, so I must prefer dogs... But I do like cats

well i have both cats and dogs in my house and its tough to say which ones i like better. i mean dogs always want your affection and stuff and are all over you meanwhile most cats you have to work for their affection but when they want it they will come up and rub against you. i also think i like purring and meowing more then barking and growling so I'm going to go with cats but dogs are awesome too.
