Try dumping it out in the garbage, cleaning the box real good, and putting fresh litter in it. After that, scoop out the poop at least once a day. Flies like poop. The object of the exercise is to keep the box as poop-free as possible!

well i don't know clean it more you know cats are very clean animals and can easily get very sick if they have a dirty cat box all the time and if your cat were to oh i don't know get worms you would probably blame the cat but cats can get worms from fly eggs attaching themselves to there anal areas!!! I would recommend cleaning or at least scooping your cats litter at least once a week and changing the litter box completely every two weeks. if that's to much for you to handle then i suggest you not own a cat they are very high matinees

Change the litter very often...every two days. Can you get rid of the flies, or is the box outside? Also, you can get a box with a lid, and that will help somewhat.

A lid could work.
We have a litter box with a lid that two cats use. Since they are indoor/outdoor cats, they don't use it much so we don't have to clean every day. But still, no flies.

Definitely clean the litter box daily (if not more than once a day). Change the litter whenever needed, weekly is a good time.
As long as you give the litterbox more of your attention, you won't have these problems.

If you have that many flies in your home that you are worried about maggots then maybe you need to clean up a little and control the flies.

Clean it often. A clean house (no rotting garbage etc.) is a huge help. The little bastards love filth.
