You cant tell so dont buy second hand, once they have been in an accident they are useless. play it safe and buy new! or buy from a friend u trust or a family member u know hasnt had an accident.

Just don't risk it. It's like a bike helmet, even if it's dropped, it's no good. There are inexpensive but still save carseats available. Check Wal-Mart, Target, do a search on-line. Don't risk a child's safety to save fifty bucks.

You cant tell. Ask the person you got it from, especially if it was free then they shouldn't have a problem telling you. Or else get second hand from someone you trust or buy a new on to be on the safe side. Just look for dents or large scrapes/marks on it.

I don't know your financial situation. But, if you can't afford to buy a brand spanking new one...perhaps you could have a police officer check it out? Or, I bet there's some sort of online agency or group who could perform a check on the belts, locking device, straps, etc. for you as a service.

There really isn't anyway to tell except obvious external damage. You are sometimes better off buying a new one and if you can't afford it you can go to your local health department (at least you can here in VA) and see if you qualify for a free one.

Yep, go to the health department. They'll give you a free one in GA too, so you might try your state.

I don't think so, just spend the money and buy a new car seat, isn't your child worth that?
