Ditto. Many people do not know there is a public law concerning proper respect, care, and how to correctly display the flag. The only time a U.S. flag is burnt is as a disposal method when the flag is no longer seen as serviceable, such as tattered and frayed, or severely faded.

It's just pieces of cloth sewn together. I'm a veteran but didn't join to protect a flag, but a nation instead. This flag burning ban would be total BS.

I think it's horrid, but should remain legal. If we take away all of our FREEDOMS, even ones like flag burning, where will we be?

People who burn a flag have a right to freedom of expression, and freedom of speech. I also have the right to think that they are complete idiots.

But I cherish both mine and their freedom above all.

Flag burning, while despicable, is free speech. I heard a senator say something along the lines of "men and women gave their lives to protect this flag, the least we can do is protect it ourselves." While that is a noble sentiment, the truth is that no one ever gave their lives to protect the flag, they gave their lives to protect what that flag stands for, and for better or for worse, part of what that flag stands for is the right to burn it if you please. Please do not interpret what I am saying as supporting flag burning, just supporting free speech.

I don't think so. Those who fight to protect America fight primarily to protect the Constitutional ideals, one of which is freedom of speech. Flag burning is a type of speech. Therefore, it should be protected.

if they hate the country so much that they burn the flag, then they should find a better one and move there. I'm thinking they won't have much luck though.

It is here in the U.S. except when they're really old and can't be repaired, but it's a ceremony when they do with strict guidelines.
