Unfortunately lice is common. Try the over the counter shampoos for killing the live ones... the trick is to remove all the eggs, and unfortunately with hair that long it's going to hurt. They make special combs (not the ones that come in the kit either, they are poorly made and will break) when my daughter got lice a few years ago, i found a set of metal combs that did the trick, I think they were made by RID. After you use the shampoo, use a spray in conditioner, and comb until she can't take anymore, being sure to rinse any eggs out after each pass through her hair, comb everyday, until you don't see anymore eggs. Treat her hair again in 10-14 days, and repeat the combing process. Also, its is VERY important to treat any furniture she uses( the kits usually come with a spray... buy extra) her bed, the couch, the carpet in her room, wash ALL her clothes in HOT water( lice can't live in heat over 130 degrees). Spray her stuffed animals, everything... and check everyone in the family as well, a hug can spread lice. I'm sorry she has to go through this, but it really is the only way to get rid of it. If after you do all this, and it still hasn't worked, call your doctor, they make prescription shampoos if all others fail. Hope it helps.

Ok my kids rotten little friend left those lice critters a few summers ago at my house. My hair was down to my butt!!! I was devastated and did a little searchin online and you must do this and one time only and poof lice are gone. Any grocery store carrys OLIVE OIL and VINEGAR, maybe 5 bucks all together. Get a bathing cap or a plastic bag if you like. Saturate the hair with the olive oil , comb the hair through. You will probably pull those critters out. Put the cap on and leave on at least 3 hours or even overnight like i did. The olive oil suffocates the lice. The in the morning rinse with vinegar comb and comb again wash as normal. Hair is so soft after this too. Hope it does wonders for you as it did me!!!!

One of the best folk remedies I know of for lice is cheap vodka! A hair stylist gave me this tip a few years ago when my daughter got lice. Just buy a bottle of the cheapest vodka on the shelf, and rinse the hair well. Or better yet, fill a small tub that the child can lay back against and soak the hair. It works. The alcohol dries up the lice. Then shampoo several times and condition.

The products in the drug store contain chemicals that some consider very dangerous. You must wear gloves when you use them. Do you really want to use something like that on your head? Even when you do use those products, the common misconception is that the lice are GONE after treatment. They are not. They are dead, except the nits, but they stay attached to the hair. You must still pick/comb them out. Use a little tea tree oil, many suntan oil have that in there along with coconut oil. Leave it in the hair for 2 hours and wash out. You still have to comb them out. Bonus: Your hair will be well conditioned. Check every day for about 2 weeks to make sure you got them all. Make sure you wash anything that came in contact with the hair. They do not jump like fleas but can be hard to get rid of.

There are so many home remedies. I've found that tea tree oil works well. The most important is the comb though. You have to comb every square inch of her hair over & over again! It will take hours if you do it correctly. Wash all bedding, buy new brushes. Anything that can't be washed, put in a plastic bag and put away for about a week. Every day for about two weeks comb every square inch of hair . Wear her hair up, don't use friends brushes or hair ties. Treat everyone in the house. Treat her BFF's.
Most importantly -----Don't be mean. She's already embarrased. Don't make it worse.

You need to get the lice out with lice b gone or something, then get that hair cut up to the lower back or so, because having hair down to the waist is ridiculous and hard to deal with, but then again im not a girl but itll make life better with shorter hair.

Visit a drugstore, and ask a person to direct you to the area where they sell lice shampoos. Then use this on her hair for a couple of times until the lice is gone. It may be hard for her though to get the shampoo on all of her hair, she may need help if it is that long.

Bebe gave you all the advice you need except this:
You probably need to treat all other members of your household too (and disinfect their bedding/furniture, etc.)
Your sister needs to notify her school and any social groups she is a part of (sports teams, religous or after-school groups, etc.) so other parents can treat their kids and your sis won't end up re-infected.
Don't take her swimming or allow her to expose others to the pests until you are sure they are gone.
As each member of the household has their hair treated, have them put on a bathing cap so they will not get re-infected while you are treating others/the environment.
Have your pets checked by your vet for lice, too.

Wash anything that the head comes in contact with, such as all combs, brushes and pillowcases, regularly and after an attack. Natural remedies such as leaving tea tree oil (or any oily hair conditioning product) on the hair can help to prevent lice.
If you use lindane shampoo or lotion check out this link for warnings from the FDA
