This is not true. Men do not hate to show emotions. Some men do, however have trouble expressing some emotions.
Just let an unaware driver in the left hand lane make a right hand turn immediately in front of a male driver. That unaware driver will usually provoke an emotion, usually a form of anger (road rage).
Generally speaking, Western culture has had a tendency to teach males not to express emotions. This has to do with the culture of a warrior. A man in combat who expresses his emotions is often at a disadvantage. A disadvantaged warrior often became a dead warrior. Those that lived were often those who could “control” or “suppress” their emotions. This was a survival trait.
As common as combat is today, the majority of males do not fight for their lives in the same manner. The corporate structure and professional sports games have taken the place of the majority of the army of old. In these fields, expression of emotion is often a handicap.
This trait is not biological, it is a learned behavior. The downside of this cultural training is that most men now do have trouble expressing affection to the women in their lives. They seldom seem to hold back anger when provoked, but have a hard time verbalizing or acting in a caring or nurturing manner. It may be too late for many adult males, but the women in our culture can effect the behavior of their sons and lovers while they are still young enough to learn.

The same reason for which women hate to tell their age . Hating to show emotion is also an emotion , isn't it ?
On a serious note , not really .Be it men/women both need right person & place & time to express themselves . On this site itself, we can see so many guys showing their emotions about almost every human sentiments. And then exceptions are always there .

It isn't ego. It is a sign of weakness.
From the time we were little, we were taught not to easily let on regarding our emotions. Other boys would tease us when we got hit with a baseball and cried, or when our feelings got hurt...you get the idea.
Maybe our dad helped with the process, too. We never saw dad be emotional, except during a sporting event, or when getting angry with mom. It is ingranded in our phyche. To many of us, it is a sign of weakness.
Basically, we learned this is how men behave. We learned it is okay as a man not to show emotions, and that only a girly man would be emotional.
One man's take.

Because men are taught to the the strong, brave and tough guy, any signs of emotions will make them look like wimps, sissy, or a nerd. It been this way since the beinning of time.
They have to be the bread winner, the protector and the head of anything, if not then they will get teased and beaten up by other guys.
I don't think theres anything wrong with a guy showing emotions if fact I think it's shows a gentle yet sexy side of him.

I think some men hate to show their emotions because they feel it makes them appear weak and feminine. Also, many times it is because they don't know how to express their emotions because they never learned how or weren't allowed to.

Because they are always expected to be the stronger gender. With this, they se crying as a form of weakness and a form of giving up. They don't know that crying makes a person feel better inside and outside. It will also cause lesser emotional burden. In my family, I have never seen my father cry. Even on his mother's death. It may be caused by our culture and since he was the eldest, everybody is clinging on him for support. But you see, even thoguh my dad showed how strong he is for pushing back hios tears, deep inside, I see him as a coward for not being able to fight that belief for the sake of her mom.
Hope to have helped!

Its ego dear, they were taught from little on, to never show their weaker side. But at times you may have a good man, who is not afraid to cry at times. Or show his sympathy, at times.
