I use intermittent catheters to empty bladder. Not sure if mine need soaking prior to use though; I notice that some do, to wetten lubricant. Mine are Penine Latex Free, female catheters, with the green ends.

Do either of you two catheterise? I was taught to use lube, but never have since, in 14yrs, (god has it been that long). I found that I would drop the catheter if I accidently touched the lube, so gave up. I dont seem to need it; there is no pain or discomfort for me atall, unless I have an infection. At £1 each for my catheters, I felt it too expensive a risk, to possibly drop them every time, as I dont use them more than once, and never, if they are dropped. I'm female, just for info.

Fourteen years! My heavens! You should use a lubricant. The new lubricants out now have antibiotics and pain killers in them to help prevent pain and infection.

If you have enough length wrap the catheter around your thigh and anchor it with med tape. That way if it slips, it won't fall.

Apply lubricant, then wash and dry your hands. Use the one hand to find the position, it will become slippery, but then use the dry hand to follow your finger to placement/insertion area.

You might want to ask your Physician or Home Health Care Worker to show you some good techniques.

Good luck and Take Care.

I would think that they need something to make them slide easier so as not to hurt.
