Clothes lint and not being aware it is there. You can set a day each week as "belly button cleaning day" and use a cotton swab, dipped in a little hand lotion, and gently swab out the offending part of your body. Don't over do it though as you could get an infection very easily in that part of your body.

At night when you are sleeping the belly button bunnies visit you.
They burrow down into your belly button and go to sleep.
Often they leave some "fluff" in there.
You can deter them by painting a red circle around your belly button or by leaving a carrot wedged between your toes to distract them.
Good luck!

Really, it is lint from your clothing. Do you know what happens if you unscrew you belly button too far? Your legs fall off!
