The South Australian stuff is the way to go. Especially Shiraz, which is a full bodied red with a bit of tannin tartness.

Wyndham Bin 555, Yellow Tail, Penfolds, Jacobs Creek, Alice White, Hardy's, to name just a few, are really good ones for under $10/liter.

There are also some up and comers from Chile and South Africa.

Keep your eye on the S. African stuff. We're gonna see more and more from them.

Someone refered to Trader Joe's. If you are near one, it's a great place for good deals on wine.

Depends on if you're looking for red or white wine. If you have a Cost Plus World Market in your areas, they have a great wine selection with many under $10 a bottle.

If you don't need it right away, I recommed St Julian's Winery. They're located in Michigan, but ever since I bought a few bottles for friends in other states, I get constant requests to send more. They have sales quite often and you can purchase from their website.

If you are able to get your hands on Canadian wine, look for some of the lesser known grapes that are white wines (Viognier, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer). Those normally come in at $8.95 or $9.95 a bottle. Also, wines from the Eastern European countries are very nice and generally cheaper. It's because they're trying to make a name for themselves and they're relative unknowns.

Charles Shaw (A.K.A. Two Buck Chuck) is EXCELLENT wine. It's won many awards at wine tasting events in California. Charles Shaw wines are sold exclusively at Trader Joe's stores. The wine is available at over 150 Trader Joe's stores across the country, but not available in all locations due to state and local laws regulating the sale of wine. Here's a list of Trader Joe's locations where the elusive elixir, sold in 750 ml bottles, can be purchased:

Arizona (all stores)
California (all stores)
Illinois (all stores)
Indiana (all stores)
Massachusetts (Brookline, Cambridge and Framingham locations only)
Michigan (all stores) Nevada (all stores)
New Jersey (Westfield location only)
Ohio (all stores)
Oregon (all stores)
Virginia (all stores)
Washington State (all stores)

If you're serious about wine, do not buy white zinfandel. Yuck. I think they just make that for people who don't know what wine is! LOL! Berringer produces some nice wines within your price range.

Charles Shaw at Trader joes is very famous for being under 5 a bottle and decently potable... it certainly isn't gourmet, but it is better than 5 bucks.

Ecco, Bolla, yellow tail, tuning leaf, a lot you've probably heard of... there's a lot in that price range. The turning leaf Sauv. Blanc or the yellow tail/ecco Pinot Grigo are fine - not good mind you, but if I needed a couple cases they'd be just fine.

Get an issue of Wine Spectator and see what they recommend.
