I'd like to have a "true" center channel in my truck. My idea is to run a lead from the front left postive (FL+) and one from the FR- from my amp, or wired in parallel with the existing FL and FR speakers. All components are aftermarket. I can, of course, also use a potentiometer to adjust the output of this speaker. I'd like to know if 1), i should run the leads from my amp or in parallel , 2) is this even possible without damaging my components, and 3) what did i miss, what else do i need? (got speakers and wire).

This is not going to work. What will happen is that you'll fry your amp b/c you'll be creating a massive impedance mismatch, especially if you wire them in parallel to the existing speaker.

The best option for you to do is to obtain a stereo crossover, running out from your amp into it, then get a speaker that has dual inputs. Run out from one side of the inputs into the orig. speakers, and from the other set to the dual-input speaker.
