As the story goes, my great grandmother lived on a farm. They raised some chicken, which of course produced EGGS every day. The chickens that did not lay eggs, GOT THE AX, and provided dinner for everyone.

Well, my great grandmother was a tough old bird herself. She too had this mean cat. He seemed smart enough to bite anyone except great grandma. Everyone got scratched good.

Well, one day this cat bit great grandma, and it was off to the chopping block.

Cats are just like people in many respects. In this case, you just have a mean cat. If it is a calico, that could explain why she is aloof, that is, has a difficult time expressing affection.

In this case, however, I would need to know more about the cat's background. Was it a rescued (abused) cat? Maybe she doesn't trust humans.

There are a few things that you can try. One, name your cat with a name that has a long "e", pronounced "ee", such as Cammy, Shorty, Creamy, etc. Cats respond best to names with that long "e".

Next, have a female speak soothingly to the cat. Cats respond to a higher tone of voice better than a low (male) tone. If a male will try to communicate, speak at a higher tone.

Next, never try to pick up the cat. First, you need to establish that you are a friend. To do this, make sure the cat has a private eating, sleeping and litter box area. If you want to try to get the cat to come to you, don't do it from a standing position. Get on one knee, or better yet, get lower to the ground. In this way, the cat may not perceive you as a threat.

Give your cat lots of space and speak to it lovingly, as you would a newborn or other young child. This will help soothe the cat and it will take time, but she may begin to recognize that you are not a risk to her.

Whatever you do, don't argue in front of the cat with loud voices. This upsets many animals, particularly dogs and cats.

I hope she comes around for you and I wish you a luck. It can be frustrating if you love the cat and you feel that the love is not reciprocated.

Believe me, even when she is acting mean, I'm convinced that she loves you and cares, but is just having a lot of trouble in the trust department.

If nothing works, you might try to call a vet. Some cities have vets that will visit your cat, if you would have trouble taking her in.

I wish you good luck and hope it works out for you.

Did she just begin this behavior? She might require a distemper shot and a good look over by the vet. How dreadful for both you and her to be experiencing this.
She is obviously displaying that behavior for some reason.
If she was adopted she might have been abused or a ferral cat (wild from the streets).
Be careful cause cat bites can be quite serious and you can get "cat fever" if they get infected. The bites can become inflamed and you will need to go on antibiotics, long painful healing.
Have your cat checked out, ASAP!

Someone has been or now mistreating her. Be patient, kind and loving to her. Let her have a safe place to go when strangers come around. People are mean to them when you turn your back.
I had a friend over once and I was doing something with my back to them and when I turned around I caught this person kicking at my cat. He was not allowed back in my house.
Cats do not just all of a sudden turn mean there is a reason for it.

She's female and a cat. I had a cat that didn't like anybody or anything that moved except me. I think she just reasoned that I was the guy with the can opener. I loved my kitty, but she was insane.

Female cats are very independent. Give her the space she needs and eventually she will come around you.

Is she ferile (meaning that she is still wild)? Give her time to adapt to being petted. Don't force anything on her. She'll come around.
