No because it is fermented already if it is the real thing.
While true Soy Sauce is fermented, most of the soy sauce you buy in the United States is a nonfermented synthetic product made from defatted soybean meal and grains mixed with chemicals to help it keep it's shelf life.
The soy sauce we buy in grocery stores can be stored at room temperature for up to a year.

i refrigerate mine but at the oriental restaurants its always left out on the table. i guess the amount of salt they put in it keeps it preserved.............
