My dog had surgery today for kidney stones. He is acting anxious more so than in pain. He does have heart problems and takes Enelapril daily.

Seriously if your dog just had surgery you should not be giving it acepromazine. They didnt give you any rimadyl to take home after the surgery? That shouldve taken care of the pain. when you did your surgery dropoff didnt they ask you if your dog was on any medication, and if so they shouldve told you not to use the ace after the surgery. And if the dog just had surgery he could get an upset stomach after coming out of the anesthesia, but its usually not this delayed. Call your vet first thing in the morning and see what he/she suggests. Good luck.

Ace usually doesn't upset stomachs. We give ace after surgery if the animal is totally freaking out. I'm not sure about the reaction between enapril and ace, however i wouldn't give the medication without talking to your doctor. Why is the dog at home anyway? If he had stones removed today he should still be at the clinic.

DO NOT give him ace. Call your vet. Between the heart problems and Enelapril don't give him anything without consulting the vet...and coming out of surgery especially. I wouldn't use Ace on a dog without those issues.

Acepromazine is a tranquilizer (not a sedative) and should not be given unless directed by your veterinarian. Get a consult before you decide to "self-medicate".

Ace, short for Ace Promazine is a sedative, why are you giving him Ace?
