I mean terrified of being old. To the point of thinking about it all the time and being unable to enjoy the present by being depressed about what is coming next?
I know someone who behaves like this and I would like to do some research to better help.
Thank you.

Why would anyone fear it that badly? There has to be a NAME for it? I am over 50, and sure, it's no fun to think of Botox, or memory loss (say what?) or canes & walkers...but...ya know, tell this person/friend, that the best is yet to come. As one ages, the "wisdom" starts to unfold. I'm serious. One begins to understand why everything happens the way it does. One begins to understand that it's useless to worry about the little things! I'm so happy to be the age I am, I would never want to go back and be 20 or 30 again...I just wish I had the body I had at 25 to go with the wisdom I have at 50!! I'd be dangerous!

Oldfartphobia.
No, seriously, the only 'real' fears we have are in the here and now (being followed in the dark, fear of that anaconda about to eat you, etc.) how many times in your life have you dreaded something only to realize that, after it's come and gone, your fears were much more frightening than the experience itself? such it is with aging. we may dread it...for years, and then one day we realize we're there - we're here - and the worst part about the journey was the worry. aging happens gradually, so we easily grow used to it - we adapt to anything. anyway, life is way too short to spend our scant moments worrying - esp. about the inevitable.

relax, friend. thinking, thought, is overrated; goodness of heart is what really counts. learn to turn off your mind, relax, and, yes, go downstream. our time on earth is nothing. enjoy with an insouciant shrug.

Adolescence / teen years (technically not medical terms). Defined as: "A maturational stage characterized by a morbid fear and loathing of anyone over the age of 30".

there is Thanatophobia -- fear of death, but i couldn't find the fear of getting old. If this person you know is thinking about it all the time and does this to the point of being depressed then tell them to see someone. I've taken psychology, and no one should focus on the future to much, because we don't know what the future holds for us.
