Because it's fun. It gives us an excuse to spoil our kids. Besides Santa was a real person, he was a saint from Iceland/Scandanavia in the late 18th to mid 19th century. He originally wore green and gold. Where do you think the term Saint Nicholas came from? Look it up for yourself.

I used to think the same thing.........until I had my own kids, and told my five year old the truth about santa. Before I told her ,Christmas was like this wonderful build up of excitement, the decorations, the cookies, "the list", christmas eve,the tree...all of this was because Santa was coming!! In time she would have figured out for herself that there really is not a Santa...the world is in high definition color for kids, don't make it black and white.

Its something fun for the kids to celebrate. I really hope you don't mean to say that you never believed in Santa. If that's what it is, I'm sincerely sorry you missed out on the joy of a kid's Christmas. I understand the whole "lying to the kids" POV, but lying to kids is cool if its for their own good, like telling them the flu shot they're about to get won't hurt, or that Fido "ran away."

Were you never a kid??? Do you have no heart?? The magic of it to a kid is not even close to being the same as lying. The faith and love a child has for those brief years of belief in something GOOD in this crappy world is worth the "lie" as you call it. I'm glad my kids have the belief of santa it's fun foe them and me. I hope some day you can ejoy something so much with your family.

I'm not sure, but I've never told my son that Santa is real. Instead, we tell him that Santa is the delivery man that delivers all of the toys that mom and dad purchased for him. He is fine with that and still believes in Santa, because he understands that someone has to deliver the toys that mom and dad purchased.

The way I see it is. I believed and my husband believed in Santa and it did no harm to us. We accually grew up not believing our parents had Lied us too. Santa is fun and I still believe myself. Same goes for the Easter bunny and the Tooth Fairy.I personally have nothing but happy memories of my childhood Christmases.Even when I found out.I never once thought my parents lied. And it never crossed my mind. They will grow up fast enough. I think you are just thinking too much about it.

Because it is nice to have something like that to believe, adults would like to believe, I wish there was some magic like that myself. And though the Santa coming down the chimney may not be real, there is something to be said about the spirit of Christmas, where people are willing to help and give.
That is not really so bad..now is it?
