I just adopted two Beagle-mix puppies and am trying to find out all that I can about the breed. Can you recommend any good websites, books, or just information about them?

i have a beagle basset hound mix. i got him at the pound. hes a great dog. very good with my kids, extremly loveable and a good watch dog. i feel these dogs are a outside dog, not a inside dog. cant seem to potty train him, and he loves to run and play and a little much for inside. they tend to bark a bit, but hes just trying to protect his yard. one thing i always saw before getting a dog is find out about the breed BEFORE you get one so your not unhappily surprised. good luck.. give them lots of love and attention and like any other dog.. they will love and protect you and always be there for you.. even when people wont.....

I have a beagle. She is a Chocolate Ticked beagle. She LOVES to run and romp and smell. I would leash your pups at all times, or it is VERY possible they will run away. She has dyg ONE hole in 3 or 4 years. When she smells something, she squeals and sniffs at the same time, almost sounding as if she is hurt, but she isn't. They tend to be hyper and love to lok out windows and just watch, but they do calm down as they get older. If there is anything specific you would like to know, I am sure I can help, so contact me if need be.

Yes, beagles are VERY hyper. Atleast the ones I know. MY friend's cousin has a beagle that is so hyper that it gets seisured. I suggest just going to google and typing in beagles and going to the library and typing in beagles in the catalog. Btw so awesome you got two beagle mixes!

Beagles are not hyper. usually a very calm, smart, loyal dog. Hounds (like beagles) are notorius eaters.. you must regulate how much it eats.. i grew up with a beagle. Got her when i was 7 and she died when i was in college at 15 years old. They are a wonderful pet and great with children.

When I was younger, I learned that they made excellent rabbit hunting dogs. Seems like they'd chase the rabbits around in a circle for you, so that you could get another shot at them. I think it has to be in the snow. They seem like cute dogs, too.

Other than the fact that they're good hunting dogs and that they're hyper, I've heard that they are very stubborn and hard to train.
