In that many religions throughout history have honoured the relationship between mother and son, then yes there are probably similarities.

Most likely. Christianity is a roman invention to convert defeated jews into a more pacifistic religion. Christianity beginning with catholics is a mixture of mithriatic, egyptian and other pagan religions. There are some 1600 differences between the syrian new testament(oldest known version) and the new international version(latest version). You also need to ask some other questions. But I'll let you study on before I answer anything else. there is a wealth of information on the net plus several books on the subject.

Yes it is pagan, considering that Mary has nothing to do with your salvation and the fact that God tells us not to have any graven images before Him, I would reject having suchj things in my house or church. The catholic cult is a mix of paganism and chritianity since Constantine made the Christian faith legal in the Roman Empire, the Mother/son cult is referred to in the old testament, but the Roman pagan Church embraces it as being Mary/Jesus. Praying to dead people (mary and all the saints and martyrs put together can't do a plug thing for you), isn't an option, there is only one intercessor and that is Christ, "No one comes to the Father but by Me."

Mary is not God. She is the mother of God. The statue of Mary holding baby Jesus is a representation of the real thing. Catholics do not worship statues. Its who and what they represent that is honored.

The template used is pagan and became tradition after so many centuries. The template was used because early catholic priests thought they could draw more pagans into becoming catholics or christians if the pagan templates for idols were imitated. But beware because it is in the Old testament of the Bible that "Thou shalt have no graven idols before Me" said the Lord.

No, it is a statue of Mary holding baby Jesus and that is all it is. That is all what the Artist who made that statue intended. There is nothing pagan about it. Please review Wikipedia, use it to look up that Catholic statue of Mary holding baby Jesus or to look up anything else.

Yes it is similar, because the focus is placed on Mary. Mary is not to be worshipped. God is to be worshipped! If you notice when prayer is made, it is made to Mary. Holy Mary mother of God!...Mary is dead, she is significant because she carried the Lord Jesus Christ in her womb., but the greater siginificance needs to be placed on God himself. So since God is to be worshipped and he says you shall not have any other Gods but me, don't you think erecting a shrine for the statue of Mary and baby Jesus is being pagan? Reason it out for yourself.

I'm not sure about that one, but I have read about some other statues in Rome being old pagan statues that were confiscated and given new titles. One example I remember is of the statue of St. Peter being an old statue of the god Saturn. It's unfortunate.

actually, the use of Mary into the Catholic was a political affair. when Church came to Europe, many local folks worship a God and a Goddess. they try to clean this but the resistance and the troubles of doing so makes them change their minds and "allow" folks to reverence Mary.

No, because it is like a photograph of a beloved family member (only in 3 D) -- it isn't like a picture or statue of some other god other than Our Lord that we are worshiping. It is a statue that we respect and honor because of who it represents - but we do not worship it.
