'What are the symptoms of blood cancer?
Some people have no symptoms, and the disease may be discovered only when a blood test is done for an unrelated reason. When symptoms do occur, they can include frequent infections, tiredness, bleeding and bruising, swollen lymph nodes (glands), a swollen abdomen, sweating or fever at night, weight loss and low blood antibody levels.'

Yes...x-rays show only bones and fat shadows. If the cancer is in the blood, the only test that it will really show up on is blood work.
