peanut, almond and cashew butters are all good choices i think.
they have all of them at a local grocery store here (Kroger's). just choose a nut, some salt to taste and some oil (keep it neutral like veggie or canola). mix away in a food processor until desired consistency. good luck with what you try! hope it is yummy!
oh, i bet macadamia nuts would be good also!

You can make peanut butter with shelled nuts and some oil. Use a blender or food processer and add oil until it looks good. You do need to use fairly quickly.

buy some peanuts and grind em up. at raley's they have a grinder full of peanuts in the health food department and all you do is press a button and the grinder grinds up the peanuts and puts it in a tuber ware container. no butter or perservatives just the peanuts. and it tastes good too.

Just puree in a food processor. You will not be able to get a "smooth" consistency unless you have a commercial FP. Also, it will separate, solids from the oil, so stir before each use. Commercially prepared PNB's have sugar added, and stabilizers. Expect a different flavor.

You can make it yourself in a food processor. Choose your favorite kind of nuts and grind up until smooth. Add a few chopped nuts for chunky consistency. Good Luck!
