Do you cast your vote on these issues?
Do you consider other things like the deficit or gas prices?
How about issues like health care and social security?
It just seems that these 2 issues come up every election year and divide out country with no real answers ever materializing.

These are issues that trigger emotion, either for or against. It is the same with the death penalty or abortion. Most people are aware enough to cast either vote based on more than a single issue, but many find flag burning and gay marriage exremely important. But that is often because it is associated with the placement of a candidate on the religious spectrum.

Personally, there are much more important issues than flag burning and gay marriage, and those two issues are fairly low on my importance scale.

1) The President and the U.S. government has almost no control over gasoline prices. These prices are set by the market, much like the prices of gold, silver, and orange juice.

2) What makes you think you have a right to my money to pay for your medical needs?

3) Social Security is a giant scam. It's a pyramid scheme. It's doomed to self destruct. This country should never enacted Social Security. It should have let people keep their own money, to invest or spend as they see fit. After all, it IS their money.

These issues are very important but not for the reason most think.

A person's stance on these issues tells a lot about what they believe about civil liberties.

Look at Bush. He is adamantly against both. He has also limited personal freedom more than any other modern president.

So yes they are very important, because someone who doesn't respect the 1st amendment will not respect any other freedoms.

Yes I do. All issues are important. Some just more than others. If something goes up on the ballet, I will vote for it unless it does not affect me.

Some topics are important to some.
Some topics are important to all.
Some topics are important to none.

Forget the issues. People want votes and they know where and how to get them. They really don't give a rat's *** about the topic once they win the vote.

The President and Republicans are just using these "inflammatory" issues to whip up their base. They are designed to draw attention away from the real problems in this country! ( Sorry for the pun)

These are throw-away issues politicians try to use to divert the people from real issues. The politicians think Americans are stupid and try to give us the 'easy' topics.

Apparently they are more important than abuse, hunger, lack of health care, education, or any other topics that may actually improve our communities!!!

Right-o. They are non-issues and diversionary. These are issues that charge up the Republican base.
