american woman moving to al khobar with husband. any advice to ease my mind or help me out? (experience pls)?

Al Khobar is one of the best places for a Westerner to be in Saudi Arabia. From my frequent visits there, I can say that you will not have much problem getting along. You don't have to wear the veil over your head, but you should wear a black robe over your clothes. You will find nice ones sold in Saudi Arabia. You will like it. Westerners who work for major companies usually live in tight-security compounds, and inside such compounds you can dress whatever you like. In fact, you will forget that you are in Saudi Arabia in these compounds (heat will ease this forgetfulness). Once I even visited a private beach resort and was not surprised to find Western women sunbathing in bikinis (but you are expected to cover your breasts). Bahrain is less than an hour away, and it is much liberal than Saudi Arabia, so from time to time you can go there for some relaxation. I think there are support groups for Westerners, so get in contact with them for assisstance and help. Don't worry, it will be just fine. Trust me on that.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is referred to as the Magic Kingdom because it is such a surreal place. You are fortunate in that you will be in the Eastern Province, where things are not quite as rigid as in Riyadh, but it will still be an oppressive existence for any woman raised to appreciate a Western lifestyle. Your salvation will be in escaping over the causeway to Bahrain whenever you have the opportunity.

I did not move to alkhobar but I move to other county with my husband where I did not know a thing and I am fine... she is with her husband and they will grow so close to each other.
just pray for them .... they will be safe

most ppl at that part of the world are very welcoming ... and love Americans
