Sorry, but slowing down won't work; only stopping an alcoholic works.
You can't say whatever you want but the choice is his.
Get yourself to an Al-anon meeting and help yourself, first.
If you're not ready for that, yet, try the following book:
Good luck.
P.S. My husband just celebrated 21 years of sobriety, so it IS possible to be clean and sober.

There's nothing you can do as an individual. Your dad has a disease and he needs help.
If you can get your family together on it, you could do an intervention. Only do it with a trained professional.
Contact your local Al-Anon (for families of alcoholics) for help.

That's a very tough question !. Have you ever tried contacting any support group ?. Plenty of love and kindness does help sometimes but not all the times. Some people try adding water to whatever drink they are taking I wonder whether it does help ?

Intervention is the very last resort. Sometimes it angers the person you are trying to help and worsens the problem.
You should contact the good people at AlAnon .

make him understand that he has a problem with alcohol, then explain that alcohol brings a lot of problems, not just for him, but his family, his life and even for other people ( if he drives ).

You can be honest to him and tell him how his disease is affecting you. But it is really his choice. An alcoholic can't be forced to change they have to want to.

Its called tough love...people are always so worried that someone might do something stupid if they walk away and to be honest....When the point is they are going to do something stupid reguardless..of if you are there or not....and please, walk away while you have the chance..
