Technically Atheism is not a belief, It is a lack of belief in gods. Evolution is a fact of life. Most atheists simply accept evolution the way they would accept the Theory of Human Sexual Reproduction, or the Theory that the Earth is round. Some ignorant atheists may not believe evolution, for example the ones who believe we were seeded by aliens. Just because one recognizes that gods are unlikely does not mean that they are necessarily rational when it comes to other things.

I think it is easily, just as easily as it is compatible with all belief systems. Realistically, they're mutually exclusive. Evolution just says that the strongest/best features of a species are passed on genetically and modified over time to better the species. I don't see how that could really disagree with Atheism. It doesn't make mention of a higher power, just reproduction and genetics. Some people of religion like to say that God or whoever else put the pattern into motion, but that's not a part of the theory.

um maybe you need to read more, macro and micro evolution is now considered a SCIENTIFIC FACT not a theory. Evolution theory refers to mechanisms within it eg. natural selection. Evolution itself is fact backed up by several fields of science. And yes they are perfectly compatible with atheism. I recommend reading up on Michael Behe if you want to know about evolution compatible with xianity. He's an idiot IMO but he is well known in the field and has now accepted evolution for the most part. As for 'missing links' et such as Xians try to push there are none. We have actually observed macro evolution in both a bird and a fish now so both have been proved. So I recommend you read more and be careful where you get your information. There is a lot of misconceptions and misinformation out there on the web and from idiots that don't know much about science.

note: most these idiots here obviously know very little about evolution and are probably too ignorant and/or stubborn to look into it so please look it up yourself instead of asking idiots in a forum.

Atheism is not a belief system, in religious terms Atheists put their faith in reason and science. The Theory of Evolution is like the Theory of Gravity in that it is known and largely but not fully understood yet. So yes scientific inquiry is compatible w. Atheism but not w. stories and myths.

The answer to this depends on how deep you look into evolution.

Some people believe that evolution proves a god exists (intelligent design) and some people say it proves only that random chance in an infinite number of universes is sure to develop intelligent life (us) ,in one of those universes, that can look back on history and extrapolate laws that culminate in us; we think it is proof of God, but really it is bound to happen at least once, in an infinite number of universes.

An Atheist could choose to believe in evolution based on the random view, and therefore find justification for his beliefs. A Deist could take the other view, saying that there is obviously intelligent design in the make-up of the universe and therefore there must be a god or many gods.

The theory of evolution is just that, ONE man's theory. If one person would just study the anatomy of the human eye, they would SEE that it could have only been made by an awesome Creator, not evolving from anything else. Period.

True religion is not about safety, or the salvation of the individual from naked confrontation with suffering and pleasure and death and love.

True religion is about the difficult evolution and ultimate transcendence of the individual, and mankind, and Man.

Therefore, we must awaken from our self-protecting illusions of religious safety, and we must surrender to the Current of life in which the body and the mind are swimming forever.

There is no "Holy Substitute" for Man.

There is no "representative" sacrifice.

There is no true alternative to awakened consciousness and unqualified love in the case of each individual.

Every one of us is the necessary sacrifice of God.

CHAPTER SIX

The Secret Identity of the Holy Spirit of God

A Prophetic Criticism of Great Religions

The religious consciousness of Western Man is trapped within an archaic structure of myths, dogmas, and social conflicts that no longer serve the true religious and spiritual process of true Man. These myths are largely Christian, Judeo-Christian, and broadly Semitic in origin, and they are held in place by the large-scale cultural, political, and economic dominance of the ancient religions of the Middle East, including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

The dominance of specifically Christian cults, myths, and dogmas is especially apparent in Europe and America. And if the dominance of Judaism and Islam is less apparent in Europe and America, the power of these ancient cults is certainly apparent throughout the Middle East (with clear, practical effect on the rest of the world).

Man himself cannot awaken to his evolutionary spiritual Destiny until the spell of mythological and self-possessed thinking is broken. And the future whole bodily culture of Man, in which East and West will realize a new cultural Synthesis, cannot take place until all the old religions are surrendered to the higher Principle or Truth that is the ultimate Master of religion.

We tend to think of "religion" as a benign influence on individual thought and behavior, and this is indeed the case when the higher aspects of religious consciousness begin to inform the thought and behavior of any individual. But religion is only rarely found to be an influence of such a kind. Very few individuals become truly creative personalities, mystics, saints, or even reliably good men or women as a result of religious associations.

Religion is, in general, an exoteric cultic phenomenon that controls the thought and behavior of individuals through external and psychologically manipulative techniques. And the principal religious phenomenon that is common in the world is not true or free religious consciousness and benign behavioral habits on the part of individuals. The principal phenomenon of religion is the institutional "Church", or all the central and centralizing institutions that contain and otherwise manipulate broad and massive segments of the human population.

The "Church" (or the primary institution within any religious tradition) is religion, insofar as religion basically affects the world at large. And large-scale institutional religion is not primarily a benign power in the world. We have only to look at the cultural and political conflicts in Europe and the Middle East to see how the immense institutions of ancient religion have now become, for the most part, contentious, absolutist, and the sources of petty social conflicts. And the problem is made extreme by the immensity of these institutions, each of which controls millions of people.

Yes, they are very compatible. An atheist does not believe God created the world.... so he/she can believe that life evolved from pond scum into animals and eventually humans. They are not mutually exclusive in the least.

Evolution has nothing to with religion. Athiesm as it is practiced by most athiest is more like a form of religion.

No
Atheists just don't believe at all. Good, bad or indifferent it's irrelevant.

Evolution isn't spiritual.
