You should put fly spray on him.Do not wash him that only makes the flies worse because they like wet animals because it is easier to bite.Hope my answer helped.

About.com has a good article on this:
http://dogs.about.com/cs/fungames/a/jim_pest_spray.htm?terms=dog+flies+ears

But you should first contact a Vet. YHou'll probably need to bring him inside while his ears heal. Meanwhile clean up the area so there is nothing that attracts flies e.g. waste. Look at planting several flytrap plants around the dogs area too. After his ears have healed, and you've cleaned his outside area of waste, put him back outside.

Best luck,
Leon

I had an old dog with this problem. It turned out his heart was literally skipping beats. This made him tired all the time and when he got excited, he'd faint and then get right back up. The flies were collecting because he was too oxygen deprived by his mis-beating heart to have enough energy to shake them off and move around. Sadly, we ended up having to put him to sleep. He was 16 years old and the vet was sure that treatment would do anything.

Spray a very good insect repellent on the palms of your hand and then rub his head with it, continuing as needed, avoiding the eyes of course. This actually works and my vet says it is OK for the dog. Use up to 33% DEET formula. Spray down the area adjacent to his area with a mild insecticide if you can't find out the source of the flies (probably gnats, so check his ear with a pen light. if there are buggies in there, he needs to see the vet.)

There's a flys off spray you can buy at your local pet or farm supply store. Flies can actually do a lot of damage to your dog. They will actually bite him and feed on his flesh. They'll also eventually lay eggs on his wounds and the larvae will also eat him. Lots of desease involved. You MUST fix this problem. Also if your dog is long haired the flies may also be eating/laying eggs else where.

Something I learned a while back.. Get Avon's Skin so Soft. It works Great as an insect repellent for animals as well as humans. We have used it on our goats, sheep and dogs as well as ourselves. Just got the bottle that's the oil not the lotion, pour it in a spray bottle and spray it on the animal. It's not horribly expensive and at least has a pleasant oder too.

My inlaws used to have a spray for their dog's ears. It would keep the flies away. They probably got it at the vets. I wish I could remember the name of it. But they do make stuff. try petco or one of the stores.

Dont give your dog garlic- it is in the onion family and can cause a fatal anemia- contact your vet. They should sell either Petguard Gel or Siphotrol Insect wipes that are safe for your pet.

try a product called Flys off by Farnam. It is made for use on all animals except cats. there is a pump spray or an arosol and it was made originally for horses I beleive. You shoul call around to pet stores to see if they have it before you waste gas running around.

phone the vet, there must be some product out there.

see what you can do to get rid of the flies.

It could be that your house is attracting the flies, like what do you have on your house, I hear some wood oils attract flies.

flies? is there garbage or something dead near where you let him out? If its fleas I would have a professional bomb the yard and then let you know when it would be safe to let the dog back outside...good luck to you and puppy
