A 25 year old man is in a great deal of pain. His chest hurts so much he can hardly stand up straight. He has had this pain before, once in a while, but never to this extreme. He decides to go to the emergency room. The doctor asks him to describe what he has done so far today. The man says he had a suasage-egg sandwich from a fast food restaurant for breakfast. He noticed a dull ache in his chest as he ran to class but it didn't hurt enough to worry him. He then went to class at the college he attends. For lunch, he had pizza with sausage and peppers at the cafeteria. He then met some friends at the gym to play basketball. About fifteen minutes after starting to play, the chest pain started. The doctor runs some tests and tells him his heart is fine.

What problem does this person have? What Happens inside the body of someone who has this? How can you try to lessen the pain caused by this problem? Why does surgery work to permanently fix this problem?

how about a change in not only his diet but also a change in his lifestyle. and waiting 30 minutes before doing any sort of physical exercise.

If it's really because of acid reflux, antacid therapy would be inadequate. He might need a H2 receptor antagonist (Ranitidine) or proton pump inhibitor (Omeprazole). I don't know whether these drugs are available in your country without prescription. The names I give above are generic names.

He really needs to change his diet. He should also be screened for esophageal cancer because reflux can be a cause of it. He seems to be getting alot of exercise, so that is in his favor. His major problem is his diet, which is irritated by the physical activity.

he's eating horribly to begin with. if ya don't want f'n heartburn then don't eat greasy foods!!!! i believe the surgery actually allows air to excape and not become trapped. which causes the discomfort.
