New friend. The closer friend will always be around afterwards which could develop into trust issues later on (or it could ruin the friendship is things don't go as planned). A new person you likely will never see again.

My wife and I confided in her friends. You will be surprised how many people do that. We also did the 2 guy thing and it went well also.
