He's 11 and you're just now starting to worry about his conditions? There's half the problem.

Life isn't going his way. And it's not going his way because he doesn't talk. YOU won't be able to help. You're a parent and he's gotten to the age where you can't help all the time like when he was younger. Sadly there's nothing you CAN do. It's in HIS hands now, and the hands of his friends and classmates. There could be a chance that he's getting bullied at school. If so, DON'T HELP HIM, by trying to get involved in it. Teach him to stand up for himself or offer him some martial arts classes if you can afford it. Could also be a confidence issue. Most kids have to wait til they get older. Just don't try and push anything right now.

Welcome to puberty Mom. The good news is that he will disappear into his room; when he comes out to go to college, he will be the newer, kinder, gentler version of himself. Don't take anything personal. Just leave the door of communication open. Keep up with who his friends are, what he is doing, how he is doing in school. I always volunteered to drive the kids, have the parties, be the neighborhood crash house; that way I could see and watch all that went on, without getting in the way. Treat him with respect, and if he treats you with disrespect- ask him why he would choose to treat you this way, when you only have his best interest in mind( do this in a small "hurtful" voice- that puts the guilt on him, and he will respond with remorse, I guarantee it).

It is normal for 11 year olds to have attitudes and be secretive to a certain extent. If your son's behavior seems overly so, consult the school counselor and his teachers for their input on what is going on at school.

Check out his friends. Sounds like a peer problem. Probably been going on for a while but might not be too late. I would also look for drugs and again..look at who he is hanging out with or on the internet with.

He's normal and should come out of this stage in about 2 or 3 years. I wouldn't let him be disrespectful but other then that just let it go. He's becoming a man....I swear they are worst then girls and puberty.

It usually shows severe anger and can often be anger from a confidence betrayal. You need to sit down with him and try to get him to talk one on one and LISTEN ONLY. Do not be judgemental in any way.
