You have to decide based on actually looking at the pictures and features, but briefly, here are some key factors:

Picture quality of plasma is brighter, better color, better blacks than LCD.

Sharpness is the same for equivalent pixel counts. Some newer LCDs have 1080 x 1920 resolution, most plasmas still in the 720 x 1250 range.

Plasma is heavier and uses more power.

There iare reports that plasmas are not as reliable, but that may not be true with the latest models.

Plasmas are subject to burn-in. A stationary image left on the screen for a long time could produce a permanent ghost image. The most risk is when viewing a lot of 4:3 ratio pictures (non-HD), which are displayed with vertical dark areas on the left and right to fill in the wide screen. There are ways to minimize this, however. many sets have a "stretch" mode which widens the picture to fill the whole screen.

Plasmas come in largers sizes, although large LCDs are coming out, but they are expensive.

I assume you are referring to flat-panel LCDs. There are rear-projection TV using LCDs and other technologies that produce excellent pictures, but projection sets are larger.

Ok, here is what I can tell you. You don't want to get a LCD. LCD screens although look nice, use a projection bulb for it's backlighting. The Life of a plasma is around 25000 to 35000 hours, the life of a projection bulb is 3000 hours, usually less, so you would have to replace that bulb at probably 500 bucks a pop. Plasmas have great pictures, better then LCD anyways they just put off more heat and are thicker, big whoop, they are 4 inches think, and heaveier too. Philips has a 50" HDTV plasma for 1800 dollars now, pretty sweet deal.

LCD. It is longer lasting and has a less of a risk than a Plasma of burning out. also if you want to play video games on a plasma the image will always stay on the back. That is only if you play too much. However LCD tvs are a little more expensive than plasmas. a good LCD TV is the Sharp Aquos lime.

Definitely LCD! I have a friend who works in one of the major TV companies. He said LCD, Plasma is just a transition technology. LCD is the way to go for TV.

Yahoo home page just a bit ago featured just such a discussion. As far as I am concerned, LCD is currently the way to go, as there is no burn-in and they can be used as a computer monitor also. Neither LCD nor Plasma does black as well as CRT's, but LCD has an edge there. It depends on what you want to use it for.

LCD for sure. Plasma technology is fading out the market very soon, you can tell by their price are dropping drastically.
