There are a few applications available but the easiest is Tor. Tor anonymous web surfing uses onion routers to mask your activity on the Internet. Basically, Tor bounces your net traffic from one server to another thereby hiding your location. And, the best thing about Tor is that it is completely free.

There is an excellent article from PC World magazine which provide step by step instructions. BTW, PC World awarded Tor as the best product of the year. You can find the full article at http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,121194,00.asp

"Free Tool Makes You Anonymous on the Web.

Tor hides a PC's numeric address by routing page requests through at least three Tor servers, making it impossible to trace a page request back to the PC that actually made it.

The Tor Project makes several versions of its software. One version turns a PC into a Tor server, while a second version allows you to access the network of Tor servers to anonymously surf the Internet." --pcworld.com

The download link is http://tor.eff.org/. The Tor site also has a great tutorial on how to use their product.

Since you are using Firefox, you can installed the Switchproxy extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/125/). The extension makes it easier to log on and log off of Tor. It's not necessary but it will save you 1 or 2 steps in setting it up.
