Most nutritionists I know would recommend eating properly, smaller portion sizes and regular exercise. I reduced calories signiifcantly and exercised 1 hour a day and lost about 55 pounds in 3 months.
The "fad" diets may help initially, but they may cause more damage than they do good.

It's all about low calorie. If you burn more calories than you consume, you loose weight....period. Atkins and south beach let you eat a lot of things that taste good, but in the end you're only taking in 1500 calories a day. This results in weight loss for the majority of the population. Also, carbohydrates is one of the three sacronutrient (meaning they are absolutely critical for survival). The other 2 are protein and fat. If you drastically cut your carbs for too long, you will have some pretty bad health problems. That's why Atkins and south beach, although effective, are only short-lived and not a life long way to control weight. Just stick with low fat carb and calorie and you WILL loose weight And remember, 1 pound is 3,500 calories. This means if you cut 500 calories a day, you will loose a pound a week. If you burn an additional 500 through exercise....that equals 2 pounds a week. Can you believe this is like 52 pounds in 6 months!!

There is no diet for everyone. What would be good for you may not be good for someone else. Personally i have checked each diet type. South beach is probably the healthliest way to go when dealing with low/no carb diets. The down side you have to buy abotu 50$ worth of books to read the tell you whats good and not. Most doctors sugest to stay away from no carb diets like Atkins. Think about it nothing but meat and cheese can and inevitably cause heart issues. Atkins is only suggested for a couple weeks use. The best diet is to watch your caloric intake and exercise. Ediets is one of the site which has helped me. And if you drink or smoke consider dropping those habits before you diet. it'll make everything so much easier.
Best of Luck

Well I'm not familiar with any except for Atkins, which eliminates carbs so that isn't a good idea. Eliminating a food group will never keep weight loss permanent.
The best way to diet is to lower portion sizes, and to choose healthier foods and drinks.
If you are looking for a fast weight loss you can try the following:
-Replace soda and bevarages with water and/or flavored water (assuming you drink at least one regularly)
-go on a vegetarian diet for the time you are looking to be thinner (vegetarians often replace meat with carbs, however, so that can get a bit tricky)
-Here's a trick. Drink as much water as you can when you sit down to eat. Try to drink 1-2 glasses before you start eating, and between each bite drink many sips. It may seem a bit extreme, but it will make you feel full faster, and if you stop eating when you feel full and don't eat until the next meal/snack time, you will see that your intake of food will decrease.
This is obviously hard to keep up, but if you are looking for a fast weight loss, and you do it correctly, you may see results.
Hope this helps!! =]

The best is eating right. I've tried most and they work for a while, but you start eating 'regular' food again ..... there goes all the hard work!!!! The best results I've ever had was with eating 5 or 6 small meals a day. I try to stick with high complex carbs (natural like brown rice and fruits) low fat, high protien. A good cereal with low fat milk and fruit or a protien shake/smoothie and fruit for breakfast. 2.5 to 3 hrs later a snack, fruit, veggies, protien bar, or healthy type snack. 2.5 to 3 hrs later, lunch goes like an open faced sandwich with a slice of cheese & lots of lettuce, tomato & cucumber or salad with chicken or shrimp & shredded cheese or if in a real hurry, a yogurt, fruit and protien bar. Space out another 2.5 - 3 hrs for another healthy snack a great one for on the go is cheese cubes and fruit/veggies. Dinner, I eat whatever I fix for dinner (or anyone fixes) but take less meat and double the veggies, and little or no starches (simple carbs). I try not to cut out anything completely because if I do, I start to get cravings. I have a killer sweet tooth. I will have a small piece of cake at a birthday. At home I keep lots of Jello and Jello pudding. It's quick, easy and if made with fruit (Jello) or low fat milk (pudding) it's not too bad and I feel like I'm cheating. Of course all day long, lots of water!!! I've done very well with this over a long period of time. You don't have to buy special food, and if you go out somewhere you don't have to agonize over what to eat! Good luck! I lost my 60 # and have kept it off this way!

This question comes up too often too count. I always put it into perspective by reminding people that for the past 65 years major government health organizations have spending millions if not billions of tax dollars all telling us the same dam thing, and no body hears it...well balanced diet lower you fat intake and regular exercise. PERIOD! Why does it have to more complicated? Cut carbs, cut protein, cut this cut that. Why? Carb cutting works because for every gram of carbohydrates stored in your body attracts 2 grams of water. When you cut carbs you loose a ton of water (which is why bodybuilders do this as part of training before a competition). They also get moody, ammonia levels in the blood increase as well as about a hundred other problems that arise including (for you guys) the risk of kidney stones. As well as all that fun you’ll have you can look forward to hanging out in front of the bakery drooling at loaf of bread. And when you eat that bread your body realizes your starving it of its second most important source of energy and will stop at nothing to hoard it (right on your thighs and mid section). Again information is the key...
Your body burns three primary sources of fuel...
1) ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate) used for quick busts of energy -uses a phosphate ion
1a) Creatine phosphate (body steals a phosphate to make more ATP)
2) Glycogen (carbs) produces lactic acid (that burning feeling in your muscles
3) Fat uses O2 to burn no lactic acid build up. 60-80% THR (Target Heart range) Talk to your personal trainer.
But again we come back to which diet is better...Balanced diet and regular exercise, it’s the boring alternative but it will work every time and the weight will actually stay off, no more yo-yoing.

I've been on them all
All that has ever worked for me is :
++low calorie ( less than 2000 cals/ day)
++Low fat
++less than 400 calories per meal
++ low gycemic foods ( no alcohol, no white bread, potatoes, sugar)
++4-5 meals per day
++ Cardio at least 3 times per week at least 30mins per time.
get a heart monitor and get your heart to (220-your age)X0.60
and keep it there 30 mins per session
It sounds hard but it is not
when you go to low fat foods you can eat a lot more.
once the weight starts coming off you are gonna want to do more cardio, more weight loss,
then for the energy you will have to eat more...NICE
fruits , veggies, oatmeal, fish, white chicken, tuna whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta,
the pounds will melt away if you do this
hope this helps

I think you got one right, and it's the old fashioned one. Low fat, low carb, and certainly low cal. Don't we all know to avoid fat and totally cut out pastries and sweets and white starch? And burn more calories each day...

Decrease your calorie intake, eat less food more often, and exercise daily.
"Diets" destroy your body and you simply put the weight back on later. A slower, healthy approach to weight loss will keep you slimmer, be safer, and burn fat away from the right areas.
