Doing it (powerwalking) outside is harder so you burn more calories. The treadmill momentum makes it easier to walk. Jogging is high impact which can create problems for you.

The way that you have learned to eat is responsible for making obesity (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) the number 1 health problem in the world soon replacing hunger and infectious disease. So it is mostly not your fault if you need to lose weight. You are part of this pandemic (epidemic) of obesity.

You need to learn a whole new way of eating. The site below will teach about losing bodyfat, retained water and something else. Plus you learn about anti-water and absolute fastest way to lose weight. Learn everything on it. Do this and you can be thin. Do this not and remain part of the biggest pandemic ever.

Jogging can be better than power walking, depending on your body. The older you are the harder it may be on your joints. Also, for your knees and joints tread mills is better than cement sidewalks. For me I use a tread mill and jog for 20 minutes 3-4 times a week. I get shin splints when I try outside and therefor cant go as long or as often. I don't know of any specific studies that have been done to prove this, I just know my body and stories from the gym I used to work at.

any of them will do the trick - but if you can do an incline on the treadmill I would go with a power walking/jogging combo on that. walking is better on your joints, but you do work harder when jogging.

It all depends on time and intensity, so there isn't a real answer to your question.

You will, however, burn more calories by jogging rather than walking for the same amount of time.
